Current - For the Sports Lovers
Proposed Trade From the Toronto Blue Jays - Scott Downs, Dustin McGowan,
Jeremy Accardo, Brian Wolfe, Lyle Overbay
To the New York Mets - For Carlos Delgado
This would cost the Ball-Club roughly $7,000,000/year for as long as Delgado plays but would generate huge interest within Toronto for the next five years. For the following reasons;
1) Delgado is a household name from playing in New York
2) Delgado is highly respected within the Baseball World for years of success with
Toronto and New York.
3) Statisticians love him as he posted NINE consecutive years of 30+ Homeruns
100+ RBI's and Toronto has great pitching (they have plenty to spare).
4) The Jays, over the last five years (since Delgado left for New York) have only drawn
26,000 people/game. Keep in mind when the Jays were in the playoffs in the eighties and nineties we were drawing 47,000 - 51,000/game.
5) With a booming City Economy, a Federally projected recession will lessen and hopefully will create jobs, keeping money within the City for lean times.
6) Toronto is bidding for the 2016 Olympics, and a vital City is essential towards a
successful acceptance.
7) Creates goodwill within the city.
