Defending - by Moses

When a person has their back up against the wall, a natural reaction to many is to lend expertise. Does this preclude the element of choice? To a person that feels compelled to help?
A person, by nature, will try and help. This help is often misconstrued and defined as 'Witch Doctor'. In reality most people will freely admit that there is no 'Witch Doctor', rather a propensity to gather composure and relate from one to another. To be imprecise is innate, in other words precision is arbitrary. This stigma often leads people to move away from those that are lending so called expertise. Doing what a person believes, right from wrong, makes for a strong foundation of a persons' disposition. It does not however, benefit within the highest realm of stringency (an ultimate G-d fearing decision).
Being set on trial, 24/7 365 days a year, will lead to mental health breakdown and is not the purpose of mentoring (lending a hand). Going with the ball doesn't always work, as there is no ultimate certainty, and this is an issue many have not come to terms with. There must certainly be an end, as surely as there was a beginning. Without this variance of concept, many of us wouldn't have the ability to operate and function at their optimum level.
To some coffee is therapeutic, to others tea is a better alternative, and the administration of each has a calming effect through the idealism of Freedom of Choice. I don't know about you but 20 coffees a day will wear me down a helleva lot faster than 20 teas. An expression is sometimes the best remedy. 'More or less' is just that.
The person that is being helped often feels compelled to walk away from such help as they feel that it's a sign of weakness and poor health. 'No Man is an Island' describes the paradigm relationship of never wanting to accept help.' 'I'm a man, so I won't ask for directions.' 'I'm a man, so I won't cry.'
There was a story of a real life 'Rocky', who won two World Boxing Championships in his fighting career. Adored by many, he had a breakdown, years after his career ended. He spent 15 years panhandling to feed addiction issues. Rocky's family rescued him from the streets just last year. Am I wrong to try and lend my expertise?
Rocky's two sons truly adore their father. Rocky's brother and a close friend were at an addiction intervention to try and help Rocky commit himself, to better his health. Rocky found it so unbearable to cry that it was counter-productive to his health. His healing began through his friendships towards his sons, brother, and a close friend.
Multi-culturalism often helps when we see these instances as it makes a person feel that they're not alone.

Pat Burns - by Moses

A model family man, a man who Coached at the highest level and achieved the greatest accomplishments, a man who battled Cancer for five years and lost in the end, will forever be remembered synonomous to the game of Hockey. Pat Burns was more than a Stanley Cup winning Hockey Coach. A tough, street smart, former Officer of the Law, Pat Burns began a career in Coaching in the late 80's. As a former 'Street Cop' in Montreal, it was only fitting for Burns to start his Coaching career as tutor to the famous 'Les Habitants', guiding the Habs to the Cup Finals in his rookie Coaching season of 1988/89. Pat Burns moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1992 and, neigh a missed call by Kerry Fraser, still managed to guide the Maple Leafs to consecutive Semi-Final appearances in 92/93 and 93/94 thus resurrecting a proud organization. Having a strong showing in the two biggest Canadian (and Worldwide) Hockey Markets, Pat Burns moved to the Boston Bruins Chain where he again came close to guiding his Team to the promised land, a sip from the Stanley Cup. This earned Coach Burns the accolades and distinction of being the only Head Coach in Hockey to ever win the Jack Adams (Coach of the Year) Award with three different organizations. When Lou Lamourillo brought Burns to the New Jersey Devils in 2002/03 it was finally due calling when the Devils won the Cup (ironically Burns didnt't win the Jack Adams Award the year he won his first and only Stanley Cup).
These accomplishments must be attributed to Pat Burns philosophy on life; hard work, honesty and integrity breeding success. Working to achieve, and always remembering that hard work rewards. Many would say these are obvious traits of success, yet how many of us walk the walk. It was Pat Burns work ethic that added character to every organization he was ever associated with, and his 'blue collar' ideology from his years on the Police Force in Montreal earned Burns the respect of the Hockey World and sports fans in general. It was painful for many to see Pat Burns failing health. He didn't deserve an early exit from this World after having dedicated his entire life to the shaping of those around him to maximize their potential, and achieve at levels they didn't know they had in them. It will serve as a humbling to most Canadians, to the level and awe at which Terry Fox is remembered. It's not the success I'm referring to, it's the fortitude that Burns brought out in people he counselled and Coached. The feeling we all had when watching a Pat Burns' Coached Hockey Team, that of people who gave it their all.

Iconic Historical Sports Legends - By Moses (a.k.a Stacey Marc)

To describe an athlete in as fewest words to capture a moment, or moments.
The easiest synopsis; What defines a man or woman in the sportsworld. How a person is remembered in the future. The stories that are told, and the awe in which they're told, shape our youth and keep us as humble as people. As our children, and our childrens' children are taught, we remember. The folklore of sport through the eyes and the magic in the ways our elder spokesmen parent us. Guiding us to achieve in life, towards accomplishments, that give us the satisfaction of success.
It is said 'To the victor goes the spoils'. This, however, entails stories of battle and therefore we remember the etiquette within each sport. A stroke penalty on the ball in the water. A 15 yard personal foul penalty in a crucial time of the game, a timely homerun, or goal, all bring to light the intricities of sport. In war it would be 'remembering the enemy and what we were fighting for'. In the sportsworld, most would suffice that there is an opponent, not an enemy. This breaks down the barrier of control. When Bobby Thompson hit his 'shot heard around the world' it was Ralph Branca who served it up, making Branca iconic in his own right. Likewise that of Donnie Moore, Mitch Williams, Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton, Jim Kelly, Chico Resch, Kerry Fraser, Bill Buckner, and anyone else in the games of sport that had miserable public failures. It has to be alright to make a mistake for this reason.
A man, woman, and child has to know that making a mistake won't kill them. That you move on, for the fans that you do have (praying if you have to), to give yourself (the viewer of all sequential events) the strength to move forward.
In Modal analysis there are several scales, ionic but one of them. Dorian, lydian, phrygian, and locrian are others. It is with this understanding that people put things into an historical perspective. (Ionic) iconic, the hero of defineable traits and characteristics, at a magnified level, their highest peaks (and lowest peaks for that matter) allow us to magnify perspective.
The determination of an athletes' peak achievements are those at the 'Big Game'. Whether it's Borg versus Connors, Barry Bonds facing Nolan Ryan, Cliff Lee's knack at pitching the 'Big Game' (although not last night), a Gordie Howe hat-trick, Terry Sawchuck's uncanny ability to make save after save, Joe Montana's performance at the Super-Bowls he's played in, Coach Lambardi's infamous locker room speeches, Lawrence Taylor's tackling ability, or Edwin Moses and Rocky Marciano's winning streaks. History remembers all participants, through a chronological chain of events over time that helps put things into perspective for our childrens' children.

Toronto Maple Leafs Folklore - by Moses

In 1893 the NHA was formed. At that time Toronto began their quest for the vaunted Stanley Cup. Most aren't aware, but we weren't the Toronto Maple Leafs. Between 1899 and 1902 we were known as the Toronto Wellingtons. The team was re-named the Toronto Marlboros, licenced by name from a Duke of the British Isles, Sir Winson Churchill's Grandfather. They remained until 1910, when a Lacrosse organization within the city bought the team becoming the Toronto Tecumsehs (a.k.a the Toronto Indians) for the 1911 season. The very next year they were re-named the Toronto Ontarios, as the Tecumsehs went bankrupt. The next year they were known as the Blueshirts and we took home our first Stanley Cup. From 1915-1919 our Hockey Team was called the Toronto Arenas and the Cup was brought home again in 1918. In 1920 the organization was known as the Toronto St. Pats, until 1927, when Conn Smythe bought the club and re-named the team the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Thoughout the proud history of the Toronto teams, we have won the second most Stanley Cups of all Franchises in NHA/NHL history (14 in total to date).
It was in 1931 that Connie Smythe built Maple Leaf Gardens, and Charlie Conacher scored the first Maple Leaf goal in our new Arena. Maple Leaf Gardens was considered a remarkable achievement as the Arena was lavish and extaordinaire, built during the 'great depression'.
During the 1930's there were many Maple Leaf greats. There was the 'Kid' line of Busher Jackson, Joe Primeau, and Charlie Conacher. Ace Bailey was likewise a star player with the 'Buds'. The blueline was anchored by King Clancy and Hap Day, with Frank McCool as our Goaltender throughout the decade. All told Toronto took home the Stanley Cup as the Maple Leafs for the first time in 1932. Ace Bailey lost his ability to play the game in 1934, due to a bodycheck thrown by the great Boston Bruin defenceman Eddie Shore. They shook hands publically, as Bailey forgave Shore (even though he couldn't play Ice Hockey anymore). That year they held the All-Star Game in Ace Bailey's honour, with the Maple Leafs hosting the best of the League.
At the start of the 1936 campaign Syl Apps Sr. came aboard, and he became perhaps the most iconic Leaf Captain of all-time (being named such in 1940).
In the forties, the Maple Leafs were led by Captain Syl Apps, Goalie Turk Broda, Harry Watson, Ted Kennedy, Cal Gardner, Howie Meeker, Gordie Drillon, and Sid Smith, among others, and won the prized Stanley Cup 5 times over the course of the decade.
Punch Imlach joined the Leafs brass during the 50's as Coach and Genereal Manager, and brought in Bill Barilko, Dicky Duff, Bobby Baun, Harry Lumley, and Tim Horton. Although the Leafs only won one Stanley Cup during the 50's, Toronto was still considered a powerhouse team. This of course was in the time of Gordie Howe's' Detroit Red Wings, Maurice Richard's' Montreal Canadiens, Bobby Hull's' Chicago Black Hawks, and Andy Bathgate's' New York Rangers (the Bruins were a little soft in the 50's).
The Leafs caught fire in the 60's and were a dynasty, winning the Cup three years in a row, 1962-1964, and in 1967 for good measure. Led by Hockey Guru Punch Imlach, the team featured George Armstrong as Captain, Johnny Bower and Terry Sawchuck as netminders, and Davey Keon. They teamed alongside mainstays Tim Horton, Bobby Baun, and Dicky Duff.
The Seventies saw Jacques Plante come to Toronto in 1970, a year in which we saw the emergence of future Captain Darryl Sittler. It is still a sour taste in this writers' mouth that the Leafs traded Bernie Parent to the Philadelphia Flyers for Doug Favell (a swap of Goalies) the next year. Norm Ullman was perhaps the best Leaf during this time, and led alongside Captain Davey Keon until Sittler took over the reign. During the 1973/74 season, Toronto saw future Hall of Famers Lanny McDonald and Borje Salming join the big club. At the start of the 76/77 year we saw the emergence of rookies Dave 'Tiger' Williams and goalie Mike Palmateer. Our Leafs peaked in 77/78 and beat the future dynasty New York Islanders in the Quarter-Finals, with the winning goal scored by Lanny McDonald on a wrist shot on Chico Resch that went five-hole. Although the Leafs looked primed to make a run for the Cup, the team was dismantled by Harold Ballard and we went on a downside into the eighties. It was in the early 80's that the Leafs provided the fans of Toronto with our first Maple Leaf to score 50 Goals. Rick Vaive did so three times in fact, and duly became the next Leaf Captain. The 1985/86 campaign saw Toronto with the first overall pick - Wendel Clark. Robbed at winning the Calder Trophy, Clark became an early fan favourite as he scrapped and scored goals at an alarming rate. This of course was the Brophy days where we saw three fights a game, yet rarely making the playoffs. The city loved to talk about Head Coaches Brophy and Demers, with the inference of our mortal enemy, the Toronto/Detroit rivalry. Late in the decade Wendel Clark was named our next Captain, and many would say he was a true great of the game.
It was in 1991 that Cliff Fletcher, our General Manager, traded away Gary Leeman to the Calgary Flames for Doug 'Killer' Gilmour, Jamie Macoun, Rick Natress, and Rick Wamsley, perhaps the greatest Leaf trade to that point of Leafs history. We saw a resurgence of Leaf dominance (although our Leafs couldn't bring home the Cup). We made the Semi-Finals three times in the nineties, with Doug Gilmour as Captain in 1992/93 and 93/94. A true leader, Gilmour took a slash in the face from Wayne Gretzky in the Semi's of 1993, and everyone knows the rest. That team was stacked with solid players in the likes of Goalie Felix Potvin, Dave Andreychuk, Glenn Anderson, Mike Gartner, Wendel Clark, and Sylvain Lefebvre among others. The 1992-1994 Leafs was run by Coaching great Pat Burns, and he almost took us to the promised land.
As the nineties wore on we saw Curtis (Cujo) Joseph lead us to another Semi-Final appearance, on a team Captained by Mats Sundin. The Leafs of the late nineties showcased Gary Roberts, Larry Murphy, and a young Tomas Kaberle, this being the Pat Quinn era.
To start the 2002/03 campaign Eddie Belfour took over for Curtis Joseph in net (as Cujo signed with the Detroit Red Wings) and Sundin remained our Captain until 2007 - one of the longest reign of all Maple Leaf Captains. We never seemed to hit our stride though, and most hockey men would say that G.M John Ferguson put too much trust in Darcy Tucker, Pavel Kubina and Bryan McCabe.
Pat Quinn was replaced as Head Coach by Ron Wilson for the start of the 2008 season, and Brian Burke was brought in to run Hockey Operations for the Leafs during the following off-season. All Burkie has done since then is bring in a legitimate 50 goal scorer in Phil Kessel, as well as defenceman Dion Phaneuf and goalie Jean Sebastien Giguere. Giguere has made two apperances in the Stanley Cup Finals, winning the Cup once with the the Anaheim Ducks in 2006/2007. Ironically enough, Giguere won the Conn Smythe Trophy during the year in which the Ducks lost in the Finals. As a sign of things to come, Giguere had back to back shutouts in his first two games as a Leaf last year. Most would say that Dion Phaneuf is a strong choice as Leaf Captain, in the mold of George Armstrong, Davey Keon, Darryl Sittler, Rick Vaive, Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour and Mats Sundin. We now see a Leaf team with enormous potential. We're one of the youngest teams in the NHL, and Burkie has brought in Kris Versteeg, Mike Komisarek, and Francois Beauchemin - ALL PROVEN WINNERS.

2010 Camp David Agreement - Moses

In 1977, Israeli Prime Minister Menachim Begin, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, and U.S President Jimmy Carter signed the Camp David Agreement.
It is now 2010, and there is speculation that a similar agreement will be reached, between Israel and Palestine. Benjamin Netanyahu (the Israeli Prime Minister) is set to sign a Peace Treaty with Palestinian Authority President Abbas, alongside U.S President Barack O'Bama. This agreement has code name 2010 Camp David, whereby there will be 100 Kibbutziim situated in the Negev (a Province within the Land of Canaan). In each Kibbutz there will be 501 people; 167 Israeli Jews, 167 Israeli Arabs, 167 Palestinians. Though the first five years of this Treaty, the aim is to promote multi-culturalism within the Land of Canaan. After five years there is anticipation of multi-culturalism within the entire Land of Canaan.

The Implications of Combining NHL and WHA Statistics - by Moses

As the NHL season is weeks away, there is some heated debate as to whether the NHL (National Hockey League) will recognize the former WHA (World Hockey Association) equally, with respect to players' statistics. The implications are very relevant when considering that both Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull were breadwinners in both Leagues. It may seem trivial, however, many Hockey players will either be remembered or never heard from again on this premise. Let's not forget that Anders Hedberg once scored 70 Goals in one season in the WHA (4 consecutive 50+ goal seasons), and Real Cloutier scored 75 Goals in one campaign (3 60+ goals seasons and four consecutive 56+ goals campaigns) These players are not exactly household names, yet were stars in the now defunct WHA. Bobby Hull scored 77 in a WHA campaign, and when including his WHA totals he amassed 913 Goals (9 - 50 goal seasons, and 17 consecutive 30+ Goal years in both Leagues). Gordie Howe scored 975 Goals in both Leagues, yet his mark of 786 NHL tallies is the statistic that most hockey fans remember today.
What would happen if future players join a European NHL, accredited as a North American NHL equal. How would a sports historian view the players' accomplishments in relation to eachother? The idea of setting an equal playing ground was supposed to take shape through the advent of the WHA. In the globalization of sport it is paramount to recognize accomplishments based on skill, and if a player in the WHA is forgotten, whose to say this won't stand true of a European NHL down the road. What would have happened had the Nazi's defeated the Allied forces in WW2? Would Jesse Owens be remembered, or would he have been scricken from the record books and filed away in denial, with the documentation destroyed? History has a funny way of selectively remembering what reality was, to the victor goes the spoils. Should I be a Hockey fan in the year 2050, will I have been ingrained on the accomplishments of Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson, Robbie Ftorek, Marc Tardif and Real Cloutier amongst NHL heroes? or will history decide in passivity to ignore these superstars because they were ahead of their time.

Test Tape - by Moses

As everyone in the Professional Audio world knows, when using D.A.T recorders Super 8 Tape is the standard. As is all analog 2 inch tape. What this means is that there is a singular manufacturer reaping the benefits of practically all the recording artists works. With a competitive de-regulated marketplace it will soon become common for new test tapes designed in the digital realm, prohibiting this monopoly standard.
It was in 1982 that Fuji Film hit the North American market. It was considered by many to be a revolutionary product. However, as time has told, the format has moved to digital, and these analog products are now considered vintage (picture a cassette tape on VCR-VHS or Beta Tape). The projections are calling for new industry standards, and that is where a fine line has been set in the ground. No longer will Sony have a monopoly on what hits the airwaves. I vividly remember that in 1982 my Dad's company Greisman and Son rejected an offer from Sony, to distribute their products through them. It came down to Market share. The general consensus was that Sony was too greedy and had some questionable business practises. It is now 2010 and Sony has the original patent of C.D and D.V.D players/recorders, as well as the Seagate Barracuda (the first multi-channel processing C.P.U). As the patents have run out we will now see technological breakthroughs that will in all likelihood enable a home to self automate at a fraction of today's price. In laymen terms this means that should a person want to communicate with 1 million homes on a secure telecommunications system (some would say satellite feed with it's own hub), the C.P.U behind it all (similar to owning Bell Canada 30 years ago) will be affordable to pretty much the 'working Joe'.
In terms of what is being offered today, relative to a five year forecast, is very simple. We will have the technology in place to harness Electronic Control Units within each home, essentially automating our every technological product from a main hub within the home, as well as every communication device within it's network with practically zero upgrades necessary, at a fraction of today's prices. In essence, unless Sony has diversified outside the technological world, they will become a dinosaur to what they're known to be today financially. Even Bill Gates estate (which operates with the highest of all technologies, as a tax write-off in his books), will essentially be worth pennies of what we saw just 5 years ago.
To take a page out of Einstein's Theory of Relativity, should 100 million people buy a product at $100/unit, how does this compare to 2 billion people buying the same unit for $5 with a replicate backup. This would lead to a Global Dollar.
Take for example a Commodore 64, compare it to a Dell 40 gig hardrive at 2.6 Ghz with 8 Megabytes of RAM, and then compare both with a future 20 Terabyte Hardrive with 16 ultra sonic processing channels within it's C.P.U operating at 40 Ghz with 2 Terabytes of RAM.

Audio Engineering Principles - By Moses

Audio Engineering Principles

1) dbu vs dbSPL

2) Crossover Points

3) Variable Gain Amplifiers (V.G.A’s)

4) Equalization Sections

5) Band-Pass Filters

6) Monitors

7) Microphones and Mic Polar Patterns

8) Compressors and Limiters

9) Gates and Expanders

10) Reverb, Delay, and the Haas Zone (the Precedence
Effect)

1. dbu vs dbSPL

To double your dbu simply raise 3 dbu (+3dbu).
To double your dbSPL you raise 6 dbSPL (+6dbSPL).
dbu is doubled (+3dbu) with each wall/floor/ceiling.
dbSPL is doubled (+6dbSPL) with each wall/floor/ceiling.
dbu refers to the mixers output from the mains (Left and Right) to the multi-track (recording device). Most analog mixers max-out at +6dbu (the good ones max-out at +10dbu). On digital mixers you automatically max-out at 0 dbu.
DbSPL refers to the amplitude of the sound that comes out of the monitors (the speakers). Sound at outdoor concerts and arena concerts usually measure in the 100-120 DbSPL range.

2. Crossover Points

A speaker cabinet with one crossover point is a two-way.
A speaker with two crossover points is a three-way.
A crossover point sends the frequencies above that point (or frequency) to one section of the speaker and frequencies below that point to another section of the speaker cabinet, before amplification.

3. Variable Gain Amplifiers (V.G.A’s)

i) Saw-Tooth Wave – Gives a saw-tooth pattern to the frequencies and amplifies them.

ii) Triangle Wave – Gives a triangular pattern to the frequencies and amplifies them.

iii) Square Wave– Gives a square-pattern to the frequencies and amplifies them.

iv) Exciters – Are a glorified V.G.A. Boosts certain high-end harmonics.

v) Flanging, Phasing, Chorusing and Delay are the results of a V.G.A device.

4. Equalization Sections

Parametric Equalization – Carries three qualities:

i) Frequency (set frequency measured by Hz).

ii) ‘Q’ or Slope (the angle within which a cut or boost is made)

ii) Amplification (how severe a boost or cut).

Graphic Equalization – Carries two qualities:

i) A certain number of set frequencies (A 30 Band Graphic E.Q strip has 30 set frequencies – which are measured in Hz).

ii) The dbu (amplification level).

5. Band-Pass Filters (Guard-bands)

i) High Pass Filters – Allows high frequencies to pass above a certain frequency and cuts those frequencies below that frequency/likewise Amplitude Levels.

ii) Low-Pass Filters – Allows low frequencies to pass below a certain frequency and cuts those frequencies above it/likewise Amplitude Levels.

iii) Filter Designs: 1) Chebeshev, 2) Bessel, 3) Butterworth, 4) Gaussian

iv) Main Supplier: Gemen

6. Monitors

Nearfield – Small monitors used in most control rooms of recording studios (usually NS10’s or Alesis). Gages the mix with high frequency bias.

Midfield – Mid-sized monitors used in many live shows at the Bar/Pub. Has a bigger base drum in the speaker than a nearfield. Typically used as mains in the control room to complement NS10’s (usually Tannoy or J.B.L).

Farfield – Carries the best fidelity of the three. It’s the largest speaker cabinet. Used for outdoor concerts and arena concerts as well. Usually carries a bass drum of a minimum 18’’ and has two crossover points (minimum).

Lesley Cabinet Speaker – A Farfield monitor that plays from a cabinet speaker that goes around and a-around. Is reminiscent of a vinyl player (a phonograph).

7. Microphones and Microphone Polar Patterns

Microphones

i) Dynamic Microphones – Direct current from the mic into the mic panel (mic in). This enables the mic to the mic-pre-amp for setting the mic level in the channel. Well known dynamic mics include Shure 57’s and 58’s.

ii) Condenser Microphones – Condenser microphones connect to the mic panel (mic in). At the start of the I/O Module you must give Phantom Power to prompt a response from a condenser microphone. You then use the mic-pre-amp to set the level for the channel. Known condenser mic’s include Neumann U87 and U47, AKG 414 and Silver Pencils (made by Sennheiser).

Microphone Polar Patterns

i) Uni-Directional – Mic takes in from only one direction on the mic.

ii) Bi-Directional – Mic takes in sound from two directions on the mic, usually at opposite sides.

iii) Omni-Directional – Mic takes in sound all around the diameter of the mic.

iv) Cardioid – Heart shaped diameter that is sensitive to the sounds penetrating in the cavity.

v) Hyper-Cardioid – Instead of being a heart shape there is an oblong piece placed inside a cardiod shape (heart shape – inside the cavity).

8. Compressors and Limiters (Guard-bands)

Compressors take in a certain amplitude (measured in dbu or dbSPL) and outputs at a lower amplitude by ratio.
For example – A 1:1 ratio means that for every 1 db in there is 1 db out.
A 2:1 ratio means that for every 2db-in there is 1db-out.
A 4:1 ratio means that for every 4db-in there is 1db-out.
A limiter is essentially a severe compressor. In other words, it will cut the signal if the amplitude is too loud.

9. Gates and Expanders (Guard-bands)

A gate allows the microphone to be on only above a certain amplitude. For example; If the gate is set at 60dbSPL that means that the microphone won’t be transmitting any signal below 60dbSPL but will transmit any signal 60dbSPL and up.
An expander will take a certain amplitude in and output it at the same or greater level. It works the opposite as a compressor.
A 1:1 ratio means that for every 1dbu-in there is 1dbu-out.
A 1:2 ratio means that for every 1dbu-in there are 2dbu-out.
A 1:4 ratio means that for every 1dbu-in there are 4dbu-out.

10. Reverb, Delay, and the Haas Zone (Precedence Effect)

i) Reverb – When the channel’s ‘spacial’ intonations are changed. We’re looking at a very subtle change that effects where the music seems to be playing in (whether that be in a cathedral, arena, or amphitheater.

ii) Delay – Echo, which is the result of a sound repeating itself.

iii) The Haas Zone (Precedence Effect) – Known to be a subtle delay (anywhere between 5ms – 35ms). In this delay period the sound is played through the one side monitor anywhere between 5ms-35ms after the first side played. This emphasizes the first sound and makes it seem to appear to be the louder of the two sounds, when in actual fact both sounds were at the same level. This is known as ‘precedence effect’.

Camps - By Moses

By nature, a Summer Camp encompasses children of many denominations, and is governed by commitee. For example, in Canada, most Summer Camps are multi-cultural and have these principles in place. However, as recent as 30 years ago in Ontario, Canada most Summer Camps segregated their 'Black' population from going to Summer Camps north of Toronto. It was also known that to be Jewish, was not acceptable in some Summer Camps in Ontario. During and around this time began the inception of Northlands and B'nai Brith Summer Camps (exclusively Jewish clientele). Since we're in 2010 we seem to have turned the corner in societal predudices, and therefore have no need for segregated Summer Camps. Keep in mind that once the snowball effect takes shape, we'll have segregated Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and 'Black' Summer Camps (Christian summer camps started the ball rolling). With tensions arising from the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, can we really afford to feed the frenzy of gentrification among these race issues?
In Israel, the concept behind Kibbutziim is to promote multi-culturalism within a Jewish State. While there may be 500 full-time residents on a Kibbutz, each Kibbutz (similar to a Farm/Camp - with families living amongst the confines) draws volunteers from around the World. This is to show equality towards all Nations.
A Summer Camp in Southern, Ontario, Canada is inherently different than a Kibbutz in the Negev, Israel, as the populous has different multi-cultural elements. However, the sentiments are exactly the same. To show equality towards each denomination is essentially to show equality to each Nation. We may see different ergonomics pertaining to the immigration of Canada and Israel. It is paramount though to not disciminate with respect to the people within your Nation. For example within Southern Ontario there are large Chinese and Black populations. To discriminate these people from a summer camp is ludacris and obtuse. The same argument would hold true of a Kibbutz in Israel. Discriminating against taking in volunteers from Sweden, or Japan for that matter would cause an uproar. We should be moving towards Worldwide passports in todays' age. It would stand to reason that in ten years time to be Lebanese-Israeli or Lebanese-Palestinian will occur, breaking down the barriers of a gentrified Nation and further promoting equality towards all Nations. What do we tell the children when they ask, is that person of Arabic descent my equal?

Disable This! Newsletter 3 - by Moses and Farhan Aboubaker

This newsletter is being written to promote Farhan's website (which will be up and running in the next month. The name is 'Almuawak', which means cripple in arabic). It is a statement of equal rights for the 'disabled'. The goal is to break down the sterotype that people with 'disabilities' face.

We are looking for people who want to network amongst the 'disabled', not for political gain. Stories of 'disabled' struggles are welcome, and we're trying to promote gainful employment for people with physical limitations. In other words we're trying to create positions for those that have been shunned in the past.
It is imperative that there are on-going discussions relating to these topics, and we are in the process of conducting a documentary of 'disable this!'. This website will also focus on civil liberties issues (like that of the after effects of the G-20 summit in which many were imprisoned). We would like to hold institutions accountable for their conduct amongst their clientele (whether that be a Chartered Bank, the police force, or Government services like Wheel-Trans).
People that join the website should be pro-active in being a member. One such way is to use the site to advertise their business or credentials. Farhan's T-shirts and Hoodies are one way for Farhan to express a sentiment of equal rights through being an entrepeneur. His business is in place to make a statement that the physically 'disabled' should no longer be sidestepped as a drain on the system, rather people with disadvantages that should still succeed through career choice.
It is important to empower the 'disabled' towards EQUAL RIGHTS as the Canadian Charter of Rights should be kept for ALL Canadians (no preferential treatment for the 'able bodied' majority).

To the Viewer - By Moses

The articles I'd written on Affirmative action (in placing high ranking African-Americans into Ownership positions) was for the purpose of creating an even playing field. As one viewer commented to me, there were some statistical innacuracies. Of roughly 200 statistics, 15 were slightly off. Please, by all means enjoy these articles once again knowing that there are ZERO innacuracies, as they've been revised.

Yours Truly,

Moses (a.k.a Stacey Marc)

Annointments of African Americans for Professional Sport Ownership Positions - by Moses

N.B.A

1. Julius Erving (DR. J) - Philadelphia 76ers

Qualifications - Julius Erving was one of the greats of the 70's, playing for the New Jersey Nets of the A.B.A and re-locating to the Philadelphia 76ers of the N.B.A in the mid-seventies. Many have called Erving the greatest transitional player of all-time as he could play the Small Forward and Point Guard positions at the highest level. He was duly named to the Basketball Hall of Fame during his first ballot.

2. Bill Russell - Boston Celtics

Qualifications - Russell played during the same time as Wilt Chamberlain, and their head to heads were infamous. Russell went head to head with Chamberlain in the finals in every year in the sixties neigh one year. Russell's Celtics won every battle except for one (1967). Russell holds the one game record for rebounds in a play-off game posting 41. He is second to Chamberlain for the all-time mark (again posting 41), of 42. Russell is also second on the all-time list (again to Chamberlain) in career rebounds per game and second in the single season rpg mark. Bill Russell became the first African-American to become Head Coach in the N.B.A, when he took over the reigns from the legendary Red Auerbach. Russell became the first African-American Head Coach (as player/coach) to win the N.B.A Championship. Was a first ballot Hall of Famer.

3. Michael Jordan - Chicago Bulls

Qualifications - Nothing needs to be said of his qualifications as he is a current Owner in the N.B.A (Charlotte Bobcats).

4. Isiaah Thomas and Joe Dumars - Detroit Pistons

Qualifications - The two were the lifeline for the Pistons in the late eighties and early Nineties winning back-back championships. As the starting point guard and shooting guard, Thomas and Dumars were both inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on their first ballots. Both have worked in Front-Office positions, namely General Managers and Thomas almost became Owner of the Toronto Raptors.

5. Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Elgin Baylor

Qualifications - All three were first ballot Hall of Famers. Although Baylor never realized the seventies dynasty Lakers, he was instrumental in building that franchise to that point, winning the Championship alongside Wilt Chamberlain in 1972. At the point of Abdul Jabbar and Johnson teaming together, they became the dynasty that won 5 Championships throughout the eighties. All three have been largely responsible into transforming the Lakers organization into New York Yankees' class. Prior to these three players, the last Laker' team to win the Championship was in the late forties when they were the Minneapolis Lakers.

Camp Jammu and Kashmir - by Moses

Traditonally, Kashmir is sacred to India, Pakistan, and the Peoples' Republic of China. The Buddhist Mauryan, Emperor Ahoka, is often credited with founding the old capital of Kashmir, Shrinagari. Since the late 4rth Century of the first millenium. There have been land claims made dependant on the ruling powers within since this time. Originally Kashmir was a Buddhist region, a new religion at that time. In the time of the Mahabharata, the Kambojas ruled this region of the World (6th Century), at the time strictly the land of the Great Himalayas and the Pir Punjal mountain range. It is a Holy Land to Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist faiths and today sees the armies of India and Pakistan on its' borders on previously mentioned land claims. It was Abhinavagupta (950AD-1020AD) one of India's great philosophers, mystics, aestheticians, who was a tremendous influence in Indian Culture to date.
There were Rulers of Kashmiri that were tolerant of all faiths. Sultan Zain ul Abidin (1423-1424), known as Baadshah (the King), is one such leader. Another such leader was Akbar, who in 1588 overthrew Kashmir and translated the 'Rajatarangini' to Persian. This Book is known as the metrical chronical of the Kings of Kashmir.
The 'Rajataranjini' is the first of a series of four histories of Kashmir. It was written by Kalhana in the middle of the 12th Century. Kalhana's work, in six books, makes use of earlier works that are now lost.
Many of the Muslim rulers were intolerant of the other faiths however, Sultan Sikander Butshikan (1389-1413) for example emigrated all of the Hindu faith during his rule. Many of the Brahmin at that time poisened themselves as they refused to give up their religion or leave their land. At the point of destroying all the temples in Kashmir, Sikander was known as 'Destroyer of Idols'.

Today we see the armies of India and Pakistan lined up on their borders on land claims still being made on this land. It is paramount that a Treaty be signed as all three Nations; India, Pakistan, and the Peoples' Republic of China have sophisticated technology that could theoretically be used in terror attacks towards each-other. In 1977 Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, Israeli Prime Minister Manachim Begin, and U.S President Jimmy Carter signed the Camp David Agreement (essentially making the Sinai a neutral land to both Egypt and Israel). What is needed today is very similar to this prior agreement. A peace agreement between Pakistan, India, and the Peoples' Republic of China must be in place, and tolerance of each faith within this region is absolutly necessary. Otherwise Western media cannot insure that Terror outside this region will not occur.

Peace Process Initiative - by Moses

This is a plea to the Bait Kenneset (the Canadian equivalent is the House of Commons); Create 10 Kibbutziim in the Negev, Israel/Palestine.

Each Kibbutz houses 501 workers; 167 Israeli Jews, 167 Israeli Arabs, 167 Palestinians.

Calling for a two state solution on these Kibbutziim to see where problems may arise (similar to that of a Canadian Tribunal).

With an honest effort in this format, we'll see the following perspectives take shape;

1) Honouring thy neighbour
2) A peace process that will encourage multi-culturalism within the Land of Canaan
3) de-segregation

By instituting a multi-cultural format on these Kibbutziim we'll see worldwide anti-semitism decrease. How obvious is it today that the Apartheid in South Africa was pretty much the same argument that Palestinian leaders are trying to break free from today?

In actual fact, within Israel/Palestine there is so much segregation that peoples' minds are being brainwashed on two fundamental perspectives;

1) It is the Land of Israel
2) It is the Land of Palestine

With these two fundamental views comes zero tolerance, and there always seems to be a fight.

As an Ethiopian Canadian Jew, I'm appalled at people that do not live on the front-lines of battle, preaching segregation that feeds this frenzy. I do not live on the front-lines of battle, yet I would dearly love to live in a land of my ancestors, as I'm sure many Palestinian Canadians would likewise.

Technology and Communication - By Moses and Thor Skaftason

System Time - 00:00:00 Real Time Code - reference point
00:00:01/24 = 24rth frame of 30 frames in 1st second

System Date - Relative to Time Period (ie. era or dynasty)

Hard Disk Drive Sequence - Triggers to the Hard Drive

Boot Sequence - Triggers to the operating system

Memory Information - Random Operating Mempory/Random Access Memory and the buffer zones in the retrieval of this information from one to another.

CPU - Central Processing Unit - Circuitry of memory chips and Hardrive/Hardware - including interface capabilities

Integrated Devices - Hardware devices and the software that connects them together. Keep in mind that almost all the hardware components have software based components within. An excample of an integrated device would be G.P.S (or Ground Positional Systems).

System Event Log - Log Notes/system analysis - without firewalls in place on your computer these notes can be altered.

Algorithms Within a Communication Device - The synthesis of an algorithm into a software base through ports and fiber-optics known as parity codes. An analogy of how this functions is as follows; The parity codes become stored energy, emmission is stringently defined. A satellite takes the signal with a certain amount of time lapsed (in the micro-seconds) and converts the algorithm into a recognizeable signal. The signal is recognized by a satellites receptor (or antenna). Reaching this cortex (or vision) the signal is perceived, similar to that of a telephone call or halogram for that matter. This premise has been explained in sci-fi in the name of halo-decks or virtual reality. What needs to be understood is that irregardless of computer power, there will always be a time lag in the perception of the signal. To better understand this premise would be to study Precedence Effect (a 5-35 millisecond time lapse studied in professional audio trades).

Circuitry Issues

On a circuitry grid we see many components that are well designed before their actual use. For example many people have heard of a super-conductor. What most people don't know however is that a super-conductor is an efficiency cooled instrument used in the transference of a large signal flow to secure the circuitry grid. These days most hardware has what's called 'hard software', or software within a hardware component. An analogy would be similar to that of a head office of a company having control over turning on or turning off a main server of one of their branches. This is also what we see in the name of an E.C.U (electronic Control Unit). Where a physically disabled man can operate the functions of his house (lights, T.V, Stereo etc) by sitting in his wheelchair and triggering software at his desk.
When we saw the eastern seaboard to Illinois go down in 2002 affecting 100 Million homes, the explanation given was that a huge transformer (transference from one component to the next through this device) blew. Is that the truth? We honestly don't have all the answers, however, theoretically this could have been the result of a solar flare. This is when there is an electro-magnetic storm in the outer atmosphere of the Earth (commonly seen near the Northern Lights).

Computer Power - What is possible today?

40 years ago, computers were looked at as tools with many confines and limits. You could only do so much. Today we see Terabyte drives in home computers, whereas in 1980 2 kb was considered 'high technology'. Could we actually see sensory software implemented in Health Care that would cure the 'depressed'. Theoretically within 1 microsecond, with enough computer power, we could see sensory software implemented to give or take away negative connotation.

Precise versus Imprecise

This is a similar argument to what was just inferred. In computers there will always be a time lag in technology. Even with surgical frequency analysis there is a slight delay, although I'd take 2010 over 1980 anyday.

Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada

Queen Elizabeth II is visiting Canada this week. It is sometimes difficult to wrap your head around the fact that she is also Queen of Canada. She is actually our head of government. When I swore allegiance to Canada when I became a citizen back in, I think it was 1964, I actually swore to be her subject and loyal t...o her. I do know British and Canadian history well so I know how this all came to be but it is still feels strange and absurd. The one good thing about it is that it does keep us from having a president whose head could easily get too big. In Canada we do not get too empresses with our prime ministers.

Our Global Constitution - by Moses

1. The Right to Life
2. Privacy Rights
3. Freedom of Speech
4. Freedom of Thought
5. Freedom of Association
6. Freedom of Assembly
7. The Right to Trade
8. The Right to Buy and Sell
9. The Right to Give a Gift
10. The Right to Accept a Gift

Countless other Rights and Freedoms protected by Amnesty International, enforced by the United Nations (superceeding G-20).

When protecting the Canadian Constitution, it is paramount that the constitution we have supercede the Criminal Code.
In other words, my Freedom of Speech is a Freedom, therefore, if an Officer of the Law tells me to shut up, I still have the right to speak. This may seem a simple observation, however, it is a common way of defending oneself should that person be obtained by the Law for no just cause.

Typecast Prejudice A

As we see a Democratic perspective in the Western World, this tolerance of each-other, allows us to embrace a principle of socialization. I agree with you, I disagree with you, and I agree to disagree with you, are sentiments that best describe this tolerance level aforementioned. When tolerance is taken out of the equation, we see hate crimes, suicide, murders, and Wars.
Preconceived notions appear as a trigger mechanism to deflect guilt. A person that feels bad about disliking Jews, will in all likelihood bad mouth a Jewish person to rid himself/herself of this guilt. The instant gratification of this trigger compounds and eventually something has to give, leading to hate crimes. A Man or Governments' ideology that is constantly flustered and has zero tolerance towards a mistake, is much more prone towards people commiting suicide within their population (ie. York, England circa 1730 a.d), or murder. It was in 1915 that Prince Ferdinand was murdered by a German Military Coup, and, with zero-tolerance towards this assination, the Astro-Hungarian Empire fought against Germany to begin World War 1.
In this facist state, orders are given, and people are killed until their Government is overthrown. This in its' essence is the argument of Orthodox versus Secular ideology. In other words, how literal do we have to be in each context?

Typecast Prejudice B

No Jews, Coloured, or Natives Allowed were marked on signs in front of most (96%)Golf Courses in Canada and the U.S.A up until 1950. As people of ethnic diversity immigrated to the Western World, a dichotemy erupted. 400 years repeated itself in Jamaica up until Prime Minister Manley stepped down from Power.
The dichotemy that erupted were results of vicious slanders towards ethnicity. This guy is a Jew, therefore he is cheap, dirty, and manipulative. This guy is Irish, therefore he's a drunk, and a stupid one at that. This guy is 'Black', therefore... It was Tuesday, June 22/10 at 5:00PM on City TV News that the follwing report was shown - Searching for a 'Brown' skin male, 6 foot 170 lbs, 17-29 years of age (not even a sketch was shown). This generalization is obscene.
By having someones' number by stipulation of race, colour, or creed, is plain and simply gentrification.
At the point of such definitive generalizations, we as people lose a much more common perspective; subjectivity and identity. No two people are exactly the same. We may have similar belief structures, however, there will always be an undefined element in every and all comparison.
People are not algaebraic, we're flesh and blood. Under an umbrella of Freedoms, we become unique. To live blindly against a reactionary perspective at all times is like denying that the Sun rises from the East. In other words, there will always be perspectives that are unpopular, yet valid. In a realm of intolerance towards dissidants, we see not only a Police State, but Facism.

The Richard Ruttenberg Report

THE RUTTENBERG REPORT
BY RICHARD RUTTENBERG
4/17/2010
ARIEL SHARON REMAINS IN A COMA IN AN ISRAELI HOSPITAL SEVERAL YEARS AFTER GIVING AWAY GUSH KATIF TO AN ARAB POPULATION BENT ON DESTROYING ISRAEL. WHY WOULD HE HAVE DONE SUCH A PAINFUL, HORRIFIC THING? TO UPROOT HIS OWN PEOPLE TO ONCE AGAIN PROVE TO THE WORLD THAT ISRAEL WILL DO ANYTHING FOR PEACE? ARIEL SHARON, THE MAN WHO KNOWS EVERY SQUARE INCH OF ISRAEL AND HAS WALKED THE NEGEV DESERT AND WON SEVERAL BATTLES INCLUDING THE YOM KIPPUR WAR OF 1973 BY ENCIRCLING THE ENTIRE THIRD DIVISION OF ANWAR SADAT’S EGYPTIAN ARMY DURING THEIR UNPRECEDENTED RAID ON ISRAELI SOIL. WHY WOULD HE DO IT?
THE ANSWER COULD BEST BE FOUND IN HIS MIND FOR NO ONE UNDERSTOOD HIS ADVERSARY ANY BETTER THAN PRIME MINISTER SHARON. HE KNEW, AS DO WE, THE ONLY ‘STATE’ THE ARABS WANT IS A ‘STATE OF WAR’. HE KNEW FULL WELL, AS DO WE, AN ARAB ‘PARTNER’ FOR PEACE IS CORRUPT AT BEST AND CANNOT HANDLE STATEHOOD. HE KNEW TO HAND THEM ENOUGH ROPE TO HANG THEMSELVES BY GIVING THEM GUSH KATIF. WHAT DID THEY DO? THEY MOVED IN, RANSACKED THE PLACE AND TURNED IT INTO A LAUNCHING PAD FOR MISSILE STRIKES INTO ISRAEL PROPER. JUST LIKE THE GAZA STRIP…THE END RESULT? THE TWO STATE SOLUTION REMAINS A DISTANT AND CORRUPT IDEA. SHARON BOUGHT ISRAEL TIME. LOTS OF TIME.
WE NOW FIND OURSELVES WITH ANOTHER AMERICAN ADMINISTRATION HELL BENT ON PRESSURING ISRAEL FOR MORE CONCESSIONS AND LEVELING MEAN SPIRITED THOUGHTS TOWARDS THE ONLY TRUE ALLY AMERICA HAS IN THE MIDDLE EAST. WE CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT ANOTHER SHAMEFUL OSLO ACCORD PUT BEFORE US. OSLO GOT MORE JEWS KILLED THAN ANY OTHER ‘PEACE’ INITIATIVE. AMERICA, WAKE UP AND REALIZE YOU ELECTED A SOCIALIST MARXIST PRESIDENT WITH LEANINGS TOWARD UNPARRALELLED ARAB APPEASEMENT. DAVID AXELROD AND RAHM EMMANUEL, SHAME ON THESE TWO JEWS FOR SUPPORTING AN ANTI ISRAELI PRESIDENT. THEY SIMPLY DO NOT KNOW OR UNDERSTAND THEIR OWN IDENTITIES OR HERITAGE.

Communication and Technology - by Moses

Communication and Technology

One Cell to one Cell is relay station to relay station. This is the premise of tape delay of a Network and their affiliates. Port to Port, relay to relay station is our Cellular Network.

Groundline to Groundline is communication within one main hub. Intranet to intranet within one internet is a simple analogy. Low differential copper inducted capacitor channels are used, essentially our groundlines within a hub (or mainframe).

Satellite to satellite is communication from one hub to another hub. Internet to internet (E.T Phones home). With an infinite number of satellites means that each home could be monitored by another home. For example, how many Commodore 64's are able to be monitored by one 2gb U.S.B flashcard? (roughly 3 million Commodore 64's/one 2gb flashcard). Port to Port in the Satellite Domain is when the relay station IS the Satellite, interchangeable by Frequency. The Satellite is able to control each Port with this technology.

Phonetic Modes

Where each Key Signature is measured in Cents (One hundred Cents per semi-tone) and is considered Modal. There are standards of each instrument. For example 440 hz is A major no matter what instrument you're playing. By having these standards a person can transpose from key to key in learning an instrument.
A channel (or Network) takes a signal from say a recording studio (like that of Abbey Road) and sends that signal to the air of another Network (or affiliate), such as ABC. Phonetic Modes are used to standardize the signal flow to its' most accurate measurements.

Nyquist Limit

Take the double of the highest frequency projected and add a 2khz guardband to preserve the integrity of the signal. This shows up on a graph at the high points being in the + side of the graph and the low points being in the - side of the graph. Through Nyquist Limit we see audio peak frequencies and R.M.S (optimum) frequencies being preserved for later use in say digital editing software.

When communication is pristine, a channel (of a Network or affiliate) is able to broadcast simultaeneous from Government to Government (U.S.A to Canada), Government to Home (Presedential Address), Home to Home (E-Mail), and Home to Government (Information Services).

Interpolation versus Extrapolation

Interpolation - To guess, plotting, to search - within a certain pattern (an educated guess). When points are plotted on a graph, to decipher between points is considered an educated guess.

Extrapolation - To seize, to capture, to pinpoint with 100% accuracy - Having the information to begin with (like a map). The retrieval of this information is called extrapolation.

Virtual Reality

The premise of basically any Video Game. In other words the cause and effect is similar to reality. You die and it's game over. You win and you move to the next round. The issue that is paramount here is perception. Through perception we see a visual in virtual reality, a prophecy of success, and through digital interface design we see what that success is (a Halodeck in Star Trek is one example of Virtual Reality). When perception is reality 100% of the time most would consider this to be surreal (as no one gets what they want all of the time). Whereas one perceives things a certain way, another could very well have a completely different take.

Sensory Software

These days we see Terabytes incorporated in home computers. 1 Trillion bytes, or 9 Trillion Characters!!! This leads us to what a home computer is capable of achieving today.
In essence operating programs today can incorporate sensory deprivation. By deftly removing programs within an operating system at key moments, our sensory can now be tricked by this newly advented sensory software. While undefined by nature, it is possible for a persons' hearing, smell, touch, feel, and taste to be manipulated by sensory software that is advanced in understanding a persons' higher brain functions.

Analog versus Digital

Analog - Tolerance and Intolerance

To be tolerant and to be intolerant are terms used in the analog domain. With this measure of tolerance (used in electronics resisters to prevent circuits from blowing), a person has their defence mechanisms in place. It is also important to realize that each musician has their own strengths and weaknesses, undefined by nature. What made Iggy Pop lacerate himself on stage? When a musician makes a miscue in performance he/she doesn't just stop dead in their tracks. It is this quality in man that is irreplaceable.

Digital - Variance of Concept and Stringency

In the digital domain it is possible to define exactly when something is going to blow. This stringency is a scary concept. To know that at precisely 2.1723Khz a transformer will give out (as had happened in 2002 on the Eastern Seaboard in North America as far west as Illinois), leaves us to wonder if technology is always such a wise thing. In the digital world there is tolerance used through what is known as a variance in concept. In other words, should 2.1723Khz hit, a relay switch could theoretically be employed to take a transformer out of danger. The Y2K paranoia is another example of what technologists fear, this stringency.

Algorithms within a Communication Device

The synthesis of an algorithm through ports and Fiber-Optics, takes the algorithm and converts it into stored energy. The emmission is stringently defined in the name of sub-zero nanoseconds (faster than microseconds). A satellite takes the signal and converts the algorithm into a signal recognizeable by a satellites' receptors (optics). Reaching this cortex (or vision) the signal is perceived, similar to that of a halogram.

Relationship of Communication Devices

Primary - Mainframe Computer
Secondary Controller - Soundcard
Tertiary Controller - Microphone

Primary Device - Effects Unit 1
Secondary Device - Effects Unit 2
Tertiary Device - Effects Unit 3

Mixing Console - Layers (groups), Borders (effects), Districts (gates and limiters), Mapping (panning and gain levels of each track), Consesus (overall signal - left and right)

Disable This (Newsletter 2) - By Moses and Farhan Aboubaker

Farhan Aboubaker is a Canadian citizen living with polio (thus wheel-chair bound) which also means that he relies on Wheel-Trans as a form of Transportation.
However this service provider has failed his needs for accommodation, and has made his past and present attempts to obtain and keep jobs, or finish his education successfully near impossible. Likewise, to lead a quality independent life; not to mention the adverse effect they’ve had on his health and mental state over a chronologically documented series of events.
In order to understand the nature of his complaint against Wheel-Trans (TTC), one needs to follow the sequence of events that I am about to describe in the following paragraphs as they've happened to him, to the best of his recollection.

1) December 22nd 2006 - I was able to obtain funding from HRDC through a program called the Opportunity Fund ( please see details as to what this program's goal is all about at this page (http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/disability_issues/funding_programs/opportunities_fund/national_projects.shtml ), which allowed me to register for a Marketing w/Digital Media Diploma (a 52 weeks enrollment course at the Canadian Business College (www.cbstraining.com) located at 2 Bloor St. West).
I began calling Wheel-trans reservation to setup for my school scheduling as follows: 9:00 am – 2:00pm at the Yonge and Bloor entrance, which is next to the CIBC bank entrance facing The Bay building. This was done to anticipate further confusions on the part of their drivers who had no previous experience picking-up passengers at that location. I also preferred to set-up the scheduling with their One day in advance trip Reservations system simply because it was convenient for me, in anticipation for the days where my health was not good and it would allow me to not worry about being penalized for trips I did not keep(which I could not take because of my health), or at least so I thought.
I began experiencing that the lines were always busy when the reservations line opened up at 7 am. It usually took me more than 30 minutes to get through and another 5-10 minutes to reserve a ride for the next day.
I would do that from school since most of my pick up rides were early in the morning at around 7:15am (which I didn't mind, better early than late with Wheel-Trans was always my motto) and could only book my next day rides at around 11am once their lines were less busy, and I was on lunch break at school. By then I was told that my reservations will be put on a waiting list and each time they would suggest the prebook service method to avoid the waiting list, and that this would eliminate the need to call a day in advance and deal with the waiting time to get through.
I complied and accepted their suggestion, far from expecting that this will go against me for the days I will be sick, and the days where some of their drivers will no show me at the wrong entrance (which is not even wheelchair accessible since it has revolving or no/ working push button doors) of the school building.

2) February 26th , 2007 - I wrote an e-mail to TTC Chair Adam Giambrone over an incident that took place in February 13th, 2007 and how I was dealt with, please find a copy of that email and his response attached to this document, since it even pains me remembering that incident let alone go into the details of describing my ordeal once again.
To this day they have not addressed the above incident nor issued me any apology much less an explanation as to what was done about it.

3) March 6th, 2007 - that day my pick up time from school was 2:00-2:30pm, a Wheel-Trans bus driver showed up around 2:35pm, I boarded the bus, he realized that he’s not here for me but rather for an older Caucasian lady. He was however nice enough to call the dispatcher and asked if he could take me with him since I happen to be travelling the same route.
He was told, by the female dispatcher to leave me there and that my bus was seconds away. In fact, by the time the second driver arrived it was by then 3:05pm, far from seconds.
I recall that day as if it was yesterday. It was a beautiful sunny day, I asked the second driver why I was being picked up late again noticing that he was the same new driver who a week before that day, was late.
He dismissed me by saying that I would not understand how their scheduling works, that I shouldn’t be asking any questions, and that he didn't want to talk about it. At that point I complied and was silent throughout the trip. As well there was an older man next to me that day by the name of Mr. Singh, who seemed quite exhausted. He proceeded to drop Mr.Singh at his stop.
The driver stopped the bus at my address at around 3:35pm, came from the rear door and saw me taking off the seat belt that was around my waist. He then sarcastically said “Oh! I see you can untie your belt maybe you should also do the rest“ referring to the belts attached to my wheels, which obviously was his job to remove the hooks since I am unable to reach, and he had attached them to the wheels in the first place.
At this point I am frustrated and inconvenienced, by his lack of respect, much less his professionalism and I recall telling him to do his job and not cause me further stress than he already had, he proceeded in removing the remaining belts and forcibly held on to the back handles of my wheel-chair as I was turning around to exit the bus from the rear door, saying with authority “You are my responsibility and you will not leave my bus without me escorting you”. I told him to take his hands off my wheel-chair and with a sudden pull with my wheels forward was able to free myself from his grip and proceeded to use the back door to leave the bus as he threatened me with “I am reporting you to the inspector on duty at Wheel-Trans” while barracading himself and shutting down the bus engines, thus further delaying other riders, as well as myself that day.
My Community Housing Worker Eddie Fisher who along with my neighbor Stuart were my witnesses that day as I was coming towards them visibly upset and shaken from the experience I just had with that driver. I reached home and called Customer Service to report him.

4) Saturday March 10th, 2007 at around 10:49AM I received a call From Mr. Dean Milton (Customer Service Supervisor) I sensed from his tone and nuance in his voice during the conversation with him that he was less apologetic for the behavior of his driver, and more concerned about the very Driver who not only was dismissive but bullied me in that bus, and who chose to concoct a story about me abusing him.
Mr. Milton went on lecturing me about how their drivers are stressed, and that I am not supposed to even ask why was my ride was late. He ended by saying that he will further investigate, and that in future I should be calling his direct line at customer service.

5) March 12th, 2007 I get a letter from Mr. Milton (pls find a copy) of a possible suspension where I am partially admonished like a teenager, downplaying my perception and twisting everything I had said, to his convenience. He chose to believe his Driver, that I was the abuser to his Driver.
When in fact what I did was ask why was the bus excessively late? I also made it clear that I refused to be handled like a livestock, and ordered around with undue authority by some of their drivers.

6) June 28th, 2007 I was stranded by Wheel-Trans, my pick up time was 2:00pm - 2:30 pm. Terrence Wang, a fellow student at Canadian Business College helped me take the Subway, From Bloor to Spadina Station where I had to wheel myself all the way home to College St with great difficulty carrying my heavy handbag laptop, because my friend had to catch the next train to Scarborough before leaving me at the exit of that subway station.
I will spare you the humiliation I had to endure being carried up and down stairs and experiencing that some TTC stations were not Wheel-Chair accessible or their elevators not working that day.

7) July 23rd, 2007, my ride was scheduled for a 7:15am-8:00 am pick up, with a Wheel-Trans bus driver. Little did I know that the very driver who accused me of abusing him in March 6th and whom I got reprimanded for (by Mr. Dean Milton March 12th) would be the one showing up around 7:35am. I noticed that he cut his long hair and trimmed his moustache, probably thinking that I would not recognize him, he moved around the bus, fixing the mirror, pretending not to see me. I went towards the bus unassisted, and noticed that he purposedly placed me in front of where they hang those big belts of hooks made of metals and that he still had his usual tone of "do as I tell you or else I'll call the inspector", there was a lady seated to my right in the bus, listening to both of us arguing. I decided to leave the bus, before again being accused of doing worse things to him, and reported him.

8) I get a call few days later from Mr. Dean Milton, whom this time seemed perplexed that the very same Driver who accused me of abusing him would show up for my ride, and promised me that he would no longer be dispatched to me. I asked for a written explanation of all that had happened to me under his watch, to this day I am still waiting.

9) August 9th, 2007 I was awaiting (at Yonge & Bloor near CIBC entrance/exit door which is where I was supposed to be picked up from day one) as usual for my ride that was scheduled for 2:00-2:30pm. Around 2:40pm I started worrying and wondered if this was not another sign of being inconvenienced (delayed or worst, stranded!) by Wheel-Trans again.
From a distance to my left, at the corner of Cumberland & Yonge, I noticed a female bus driver from Wheel-Trans ready to stick a "no show" yellow slip on the wall. I rushed towards her and once I noticed that the note was for me, told her "This isn't where I am suppose to be picked up", in which she replied, (while smoking a cigarette) "This is where you asked me to drop you once".
I have asked drivers in the past to drop me off to this entrance as it leads straight to the food court service elevator. This I had requested out of convenience for me, to wait for my classes to begin. Whenever I was given an early ride (7:15am-8:00am) schedule from Wheel-Trans and had to wait until the school opens (which is at 9am), the food court of the building at 2 Bloor St. West was the most practical area to wait.
I didn't think that this would be her excuse to no show me, for she did not even apologize when I told her that she could have double checked with reservations, or even with the building securities at the CIBC door as they knew which entrance I usually waited to be picked up from on my way home every day.
I got dropped off at around 3:20pm, exhausted and stressed, I had to meet my friend Debbie at her house around 4pm. She is also a client and needed a few alterations done for her Business card that I had designed. With not much time to eat, I rushed and wheeled myself to her house located on Henry St.
Late at night around 11:00pm after dinner is when I had difficulty breathing on my left side, and was rushed by Debbie and Kempton (another friend) to Mt. Sinai Hospital Emergency unit, where I was diagnosed with a Spontaneous Pneumothorax, medical term for lung collapse, in my case the left lung only.
This subsequently led me being hospitalized at Toronto General Hospital, with a tube inserted in my left rib for 5 and a half days with no phone at my bedside.
Anyone calling on my behalf to Wheel-Trans Customer Service was grilled with questions in a rude manner, or was told that I should be the one calling in to book or cancel in the past, not anyone else on my behalf. Later I was to find out that they were counting the "No Shows" against me.

10) October 2nd , 2007 was not only my last day at school but was a day where I was stranded twice, spoken to rudely over the phone by the same belligerent Customer Service Representative (by the name of Janice?Janet or Dorris? Don't quite remember her name), the same rude woman I spoke with on February 13th for I recognized her distinct accent in her voice.
It was also the very day they dispensed me a letter (one of many) informing me of a 30 day suspension of Wheel-Trans Service which I received a week later, and that I had to call their Customer service if I wanted to appeal.

11) November 16th, 2007 around 3:20pm I received a call from Mr. Milton, this time I refused to talk to him and simply told him that it was too late, for damage and harm was already done as far as I was concerned, and I hung up the phone.
In Summary, it became very clear to me that I have been the object of discrimination, harrassment, and a series of reprisals in the guise of guidelines, a suspension, and letters ( I prefer to call them threats) that interfered with my schooling and quality of life. They also were used as a form of justified reprisal as stipulated in their guidelines, to punish me with, and remind me that I am at their mercy.
Under the Ontario Human Rights Code, R.S.O 1990, c. H.19, I believe that I have been the object of their (Wheel-Trans Customer Service & Staff, TTC Chair Adam Giambrone and his office) extreme prejudice, for I also feel that they used what they perceived to be my "Disability, handicap etc.." as a tool against me, my race and culture was also a possible factor which resulted in the unequal treatment (through their policy guidelines and abuse of authority), and in the humiliating manner and methods (reprisals and tarnishing my character) with which I was dealt with.
Wheel-Trans Management and decision makers have shown no regards towards my constitutional rights, much less my health and need for accommodation, ever since I voiced myself against the abusive treatment I had endured from some of their drivers and staff.
Rather than addressing the humiliating poor quality service which they subjected me to, they chose to dance around my case. At the same time they tarnished my character as abusive, and denied me due process, when I have no history nor reason of being as such with their drivers and staff (neither in the past nor present).
I personally have tried to resolve this with them as I have stated in my February 26th , 2007 e-mail that was addressed to TTC chair Adam Giambrone. When I could not get anywhere with their Customer Service Department, my case worker Lilly called them to request that they revoke their decision of suspending me from Wheel-Trans Service to no avail; what was given as a response was torment with the very transportation that was suppose to accommodate my needs, barrier free, and with dignity while going to school.
My position hasn't changed, what I sought and wanted then from the office of TTC chair still applies to past (and the latest) violations/incidents, and nothing short of justice will bring me peace of mind from those who violated my basic rights, and made my school trips difficult.
I also hope that their "no/show and cancellation guidelines" be tossed in the dust-bin of history, and that a separate body than TTC monitors their abuse of authority, by giving us a Direct Access Line when we are put in a situation of distress & despair. I am concerned that without this monitoring of abuse of authority, much worse and tragic situations may befall other passengers of Wheel-Trans (commited by unchecked and unscrupulous Wheels-Trans staff) before the service effectively acts to enforce and teach their staff all that their mandate purports itself to be delivering in regards to, our safety and dignity.
The following are the remedies I seek :

• Changes made to Wheel-Trans Policy & Guidelines according to our needs for accommodation, not one which is used as a Damocles sword for policy, and serves only the politics/policies and taste of the day of those who abuse authority and responsibility to their convenience.

• Apology for all that has happened on to this day, for I refuse to use a service that endangered not only my safety by lumping me with belligerent, ignorant and racist individuals as drivers but also who failed to address the issue and has caused me loss of time and health, both physically and emotionally in enduring a humiliating ordeal.

• Compensation for lost opportunities and damages caused to my person and health as indicated above.

• Guarantees that there won't be any form of reprisals in the future or any humiliating unequal treatment towards my person.

• I request a complete and fair Investigation from the Ontario Human Rights Commission to all that I have stated.

What is wrong with this picture;

1) No apology has been issued at any point to the Plaintiff.

2) An out-of-court was initially dangled by T.T.C Wheel-Trans Lawyers to the Plaintiff

3) The clients' lawyer drops the case, suddenly and unexpectantly after representing the Plaintiff for about 2 years.

4) Without legal counsel, the Plaintiff e-mails the Court for an adjournment towards a hearing scheduled for March 11/10 at 9:30 AM. He is denied. The Court is even aware that the Plaintiff's Lawyer just dropped the case, and that the Plaintiff is actively pursuing new Legal Counsel.

5) A final decision is made, with absolutely no chance of an appeal.

6) Neither the Plaintiff's MP - Olivia Chow, nor City News have offered any assistance towards reporting these series of events, despite continued efforts to contact them.

7) The Plaintiff is sidestepped and demoralized through the aforementioned proceedings.

8) The Plaintiff in this case has a post-secondary school education. He's an excellent communicator and is a recognizeable figure in his community, a role model to many.

9) The platform 'Disable This' Newsletter is being used in this case to try and lead our 'Disabled' into gainful employment, what most 'disabled' people strive for. This currently has been sidestepped, in the name of a 'Fair Hearing'. One which was conducted without both parties having legal representation.
