Former Toronto Blue Jay Jim Clancy has recently passed on this past July 14th. He was an original Blue Jay on the 1977 Toronto Blue Jays and became the ace of the staff in 1980. He was 13-16 with an ERA of 3.30 in 250.2 innings pitched that year (a time when starters would commonly pitch 250 innings/year - the Tom Seaver's, Jack Morris' the Steve Carlton's among others). Clancy teamed with Dave Stieb, Luis Leal, and Jim Gott in 1982 to form a strong rotation in Toronto's ascent to the higher ranks in the AL East - as they showed with 89 wins the following year of 1983 with a rotation improved by the acquisition of Doyle Alexander. Jim Clancy was a main cog in the rotation of the Jays for twelve years 1977-1988, and was a standout starter with the Jays from 1980-1987 in which five years were stellar, topping out with 266.2 innings pitched in 1982 a year in which he combined with Dave Stieb to form a formidable duo. Jim Clancy will sorely be missed by a fan base hungry for professional baseball and is one of the most respected of the Blue Jays from past years.
