Possible Leaf Trade - by Moses

What the Toronto Maple Leafs need right now is a top two defencemen to add to Morgan Rielly, Jake Gardiner, Ron Hainsey, and Travis Dermott.

Proposed Trade

From Toronto - 2019 1st Round Draft Pick and Par Lindholm to the New York Islanders for Ryan Pulock.

Pulock is a two way defenceman, who at 24 years of age, will sustain over a number of years as a top 2 defenceman.  He played alongside John Tavares with the Islanders and looks primed to have a long lasting career in the NHL.  He would only cost the Buds $2 Mil U.S.D on a cap hit this year, and probably 3.5 Mil U.S.D on a yearly cap hit over the next three years.

Future of the Toronto Maple Leafs/Proposed William Nylander Trade - by Moses

Now that the Leafs have signed William Nylander to a six year deal, I say trade him to the Los Angeles Kings for defenceman Drew Doughty.  Doughty is an experienced player who has excelled as a star in this League to date, already winning two Stanley Cups, a Norris Trophy, and two Olympic Gold Medals to boot.  Let the Kings have Nylander, Nikita Zaitsev, and a 2019 1st Round Draft Pick to obtain Doughty's services which absolves our team of $11.3 Mil U.S.D to pay Doughty's $11 Mil yearly salary (+ structure Los Angeles paying $20 Mil U.S.D towards the Leafs Salary Cap over the next three years to compensate for the difference between Nylander and Doughty's Salaries).  It also dictates that the Leafs will maintain their prime for another 7 years, long enough to build a Championship Team around.  The likes of Rielly, Doughty, Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Kapanen, Kadri, Johnsson, Dermott, Andersen, Sparks, and Calle Rosen amongst many others will probably bring home the vaunted and prized Stanley Cup within the next few years (if not this year).  With this being the nucleus of the team, the Maple Leafs would be contenders for at least the next 7 years with the right spare parts (as the core is there to compete against anyone).

The 2018/19 Toronto Maple Leafs - by Moses (a.k.a Stacey Marc Goldman)

  With the triumphant return of Auston Matthews, we see four lines that can compete with any organization in the NHL;

                                                           Lines

            LW                                             C                                             RW

1.  Zach Hyman                       Auston Matthews                     Kasperi Kapanen

2.  Andreas Johnsson                  John Tavares                           Mitch Marner

3.  Patrick Marleau                     Nazem Kadri                          Connor Brown

4.  Josh Leivo                           Frederik Gauthier                         Tyler Ennis

What this writer would like to know of Leafs upper brass is who we'll acquire by the trade deadline.  Namely a top two defenceman.

With Auston Matthews and John Tavares, we have arguably the two best center-men in the game today.  Mitch Marner looks poised to lead the team in points and break the century mark as perhaps the best set-up man in the game today.  Matthews could very well top 50 goals this season (in a 68 game season - if he stays healthy the rest of the way), and Tavares still has a shot at 50 likewise.  Nazem Kadri playing alongside Marleau is a nice 3rd line option for further offensive production.  On the defence, we have Morgan Rielly leading the way, on to perhaps a Norris Trophy.  Ron Hainsey has been our best +/- player to date, and alongside Jake Gardiner gives us three defencemen who we can rely on for a deep playoff run.  Time will tell if Travis Dermott and Igor Ozhiganov can maintain solid defence with the Blue and White.  We also have stellar Toronto Marlies defenceman Calle Rosen who we can call up in a pinch.

What I'd like to know is what defencemen are available by trade today.  The assets that we can afford to part with are William Nylander, Nikita Zaitsev, and perhaps a high future draft pick.

Palestine and Israel - by Moses

So let me get this straight. 600,000 Ashkanazi Jewry are expelled from the U.S.S.R in the teens of the 20th Century. Boatloads are refused at the ports in North America and most are taken in by Palestine. A two state solution was subscribed to and was working when Rabin was assassinated by an Israeli Jew (maybe C.I.A we're not sure). Yet people still say we should trust the judgement of the American Government on this matter. The same people that benefit from every barrel of oil that's sold on the open market (as they trade in U.S Dollars). The same people that created the Iran/Iraq debacle in the eighties. Rabin was very specific in how he felt the matter should be handled (for the children is how Arafat and Rabin put it). Kibbutziim in the Sinai honouring the Camp David Agreement (Neutral land to both Israel, Palestine, and Egypt). 100 camps (Kibbutziim) housing 200 Palestinians, 200 Israeli Jews, and 200 Israeli Arabs in each camp. This would be a specific way of combating future conflicts within their Nations.
What do we see today? IDF attacks, scuds launched, American apathy, and Likud (Right Wing) politics. If the Labour party ever regains power will that ever matter anyway?
My view is simple. I am not a Zionist. They want the extermination of Palestine. I believe (as Yitzchak Rabin believed) in having an Israel IN Palestine. America and Russia can seriously go fuck themselves for all the economic stimulants they've created. Like feeding the region with arms and apathy towards Jews and Palestinians.
Donald Trump can go fuck himself for all I care. He addresses his Nation and says Jews need to arm themselves in a house of worship. This is a revolting thought yet alone to condone gun violence if they want or need it. To shame the Hebrews as Trump has done will only lead to more violence in America in this writers' opinion.  In America many people still practice KKK, Neo-Nazi-ism, and far left Socialist views that condemn the Jew.
This is for the record;  These are cities that are sacred to Palestinians - Gath, Akron, Ashkelon, Gaza, Jericho, and Ashdod
These are cities that are sacred to Jews - Jerushalaem, Hebron, Tiberius, Beersheva, Jaffo, and Eilat

Once the United Nation prohibits IDF strikes there will be a chance for peace.  The current right wing Likud Party believes in fighting with aggression.  This prohibits a peace process by nature.  The U.N should have balls enough to bring Peacekeepers to the War Zone instead of allowing the IDF to constantly combat

Montreal Canadiens Folklore - by Moses

Montreal Canadiens Folklore

Starting out as the Montreal AAA (Amateur Athletic Association), then as the Shamrocks and finally as the Canadiens.  The Montreal Canadiens leads all teams with 24 Stanley Cup wins over their proud history.

In their earliest years there were legends such as Joe Malone, Newsy Lalonde, Georges Vezina, Aurele Joliat, Howie Morenz, Nels Stewart, and George Hainsworth.  Each were integral to the success of the Montreal Canadiens in both the N.H.A and the N.H.L.  They were able to capture 4 Stanley Cups in their infant stage in the Association and the League.  Joe Malone once scored 7 goals in one game.  Newsy Lalonde was an equal goal scorer to Malone (this being in the teens and early twenties).  Goaltenders Georges Vezina and George Hainsworth were each the top of their class when they played in the early years.  Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat teamed on a line in the twenties and thirties that brought Montreal 4 Stanley Cups alongside Nels Stewart and Toe Blake.

Then came along Maurice ‘The Rocket’ Richard, goalie Bill Durnan, and defense-man Butch Bouchard (who Captained the team for 8 years) alongside new Head Coach Dick Irvin in 1940, and we saw an emergence of many dynasties to come.  Teamed on a line with Toe Blake, ‘The Rocket’ became a dominant force culminated by a season in 1944/45 in which he scored the magical 50 goals in a 50 game season.  Blake held the Captaincy for the team for eight years.  This team only got better with the additions of Doug Harvey, Jean Beliveau, Bernie ‘Boom Boom’ Geoffrion, Henri Richard (a.k.a the Pocket) and Jacques Plante.  As a result we saw the Canadiens of the fifties take home 6 Stanley Cups (five in a row at one stretch including 1960).  This was when the Canadiens employed former Captain Toe Blake as their Head Coach.  Lest not forget it was Plante that introduced the first mask to be used by a goalie and ‘Boom Boom’ was the first to fire a slapshot (both events occurring in the fifties).

In the Sixties there were more additions of impact for their organization.  When Jean Beliveau was named Captain in 1961 he held the post for a record 10 years.  In came Yvan Cournoyer, Frank Mahovlich, Jacques Lemaire, Guy Lapointe, Rogie Vachon, Tony Esposito, and Gump Worsley to lend support to an already stacked team.  While some may say they had too many top goalies it’s hard to argue with the Montreal philosophy of the times.  Although they didn’t win 5 in a row in the decade they still had a powerhouse squad taking home 5 Stanley Cups.  In fact, Henri Richard won an incredible 11 Stanley Cups, while Beliveau took home 10 Cups, over their storied careers.

When Ken Dryden came up to the big club in 1971 he single-handedly won the Canadiens their first Cup of that decade.  Then Scotty Bowman took over the Coaching job and we also saw the emergence of Guy Lafleur, Steve Shutt, Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Pierre Bouchard (son of legendary Butch Bouchard), Pete Mahovlich (brother of Frank Mahovlich), Bob Gainey, Doug Jarvis, Pierre Mondou, and Bunny Laroque.  They were again a powerhouse in the League taking home 6 Stanley Cups in the seventies including 4 in a row from 1976-1979.

While the Canadiens really haven’t dominated the game like they did pre-1980, they’ve had some success with top players like goalie Patrick Roy (who almost single-handedly’ won them two Cups), and Jose Theodore (who almost fulfilled the same role in a post-season).  When they named Saku Koivu as their Captain he held the reign for 10 years tying him with Jean Beliveau for the longest tenure as Captain.  Keep in mind that they’ve also had some fantastic Hockey minds like Pat Burns and Jacques Demers to keep the organization respectable.

Although Montreal hasn’t won the prized Stanley Cup in the past 25 years they’ve got the best goalie in the game today in Carey Price.  In the modern day mantra of ‘anyone can win on any given night’, they’ve got a shot to at least go deep into this years’ post-season.  Keep in mind that they’ve still got Captain Shea Weber to rejoin the club before the mid-season of this campaign.
